BMKG Issues Early Warning: Potential Tidal Flood (Rob) Threatens Banten’s Coastal Areas in December 2025
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding the potential for tidal flooding (rob) along the coastal areas of Banten throughout December 2025. The alert follows BMKG’s analysis of tidal patterns and astronomical conditions that may trigger maximum sea-level rise.
According to BMKG, several natural factors including the full moon phase, perigee (when the moon is closest to Earth), and high tidal cycles could increase the likelihood of coastal inundation in the coming weeks. The agency urges residents in low-lying coastal zones to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
The areas at risk include both northern and southern coastlines of Banten, particularly residential zones, fishing settlements, ports, ponds, and salt farms that have historically been vulnerable to tidal flooding.
BMKG stated that the impacts of rob can be significant: disrupting daily activities, damaging coastal infrastructure, affecting port operations, and threatening the livelihoods of fishermen and coastal communities.
To reduce potential risks, BMKG advises the public to stay updated on official weather and tidal information, secure valuable items, and prepare necessary mitigation steps during periods of predicted high tides.
With this early warning, residents along the Banten coastline are expected to increase their prepared essespecially ahead of peak astronomical conditions to minimize the potential impacts of tidal flooding in December 2025.
